Short Review and Walkthrough of Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 shows what gamers want: A lovingly thought-out game with a good story, and avoids the overwhelming trend of recycled concepts stuffed full of microtransactions and "battle passes". The sheer number of potential outcomes and choices available in the game provides a welcome change from other types of video games that often become overly linear.

Baldur’s Gate 3 runs on the Larian Studios homemade Divinity 4.0 Engine: It is an adaptation of previous version of the engine, with approximately 20-30% of the code being reused. The engine has been optimized for the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game, and comes with new features such as verticality, dynamic lighting, and improved physics. The Divinity Engine 4.0 supports both DirectX 11 and Vulkan (making it available on OSX).

The action takes place almost 100 years after the events in Baldur's Gate II. Mind flayers have begun an invasion of the multiracial continent of Faerûn. The player has been captured by the mind flayers, and he and other captives have been injected with parasites (illithid tadpoles) that in the long run cause them to mutate into a mind flayers. The player and five NPCs survive the crash of a airship transporting them, and set out to find a cure for the parasites and intervene in the war against the mind-flayers.

The game is divided into a prologue and three acts:
